19 Persons Including 5 Journalists Killed In Gaza Hospital Strike

Nineteen people, including five journalists, were killed on Monday in an Israeli airstrike on the Nasser Medical Complex in southern Gaza, intensifying international concern about the mounting toll on civilians and media workers.

The victims were struck on the hospital’s fourth floor, according to Palestinian officials. Local media also reported that emergency responders were among those killed. Eyewitnesses said a second strike hit shortly after first responders arrived, with video from the al-Ghad broadcaster showing people being struck during the follow-up blast.

International news agencies confirmed the deaths of their contributors. The Associated Press said freelance journalist Mariam Dagga was killed, while Reuters reported one of its freelance contributors was also killed and another injured. Al Jazeera said one of its cameramen was among the dead. Two other journalists were identified as freelancers for regional Arab outlets.

The incident highlights the increasingly perilous conditions for journalists in Gaza, where dozens have been killed since the conflict escalated in October. Media watchdogs and press freedom groups have repeatedly warned that journalists are being placed at heightened risk as fighting encroaches on civilian areas.

In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed striking near Nasser Hospital and said it had launched an inquiry. “The IDF regrets any harm to uninvolved individuals and does not target journalists as such,” it said, adding that every effort was made to mitigate civilian harm.

The attack underscores the dangers facing both healthcare workers and journalists in Gaza, as hospitals—once considered sanctuaries—have increasingly become flashpoints in the ongoing war.
