Eleven people were injured when a transport vessel collided with a ferry on the Elbe river in the northern German port city of Hamburg, the fire brigade said on Monday.
One person sustained life-threatening injuries, a spokesman said near the scene of the accident.
The vessels collided near the Köhlbrand bridge in south-western Hamburg at around 6:43 a.m. (0543 GMT), adding that 25 people were affected by the accident.
The transport ship, a barge, had come loose, but the spokesman said it was initially unclear why.
Barges were flat-bottomed boats with no drive, used for transporting goods on canals and rivers.
Hamburg was a seaport on the Elbe river some 100 kilometres from its mouth on the North Sea.
